The Government of Saskatchewan encourages people across the province to commemorate December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The theme of this year’s observance, chosen by the United Nations, is “Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond.”
“Our government is pleased to join with the United Nations, people and governments around the world to once again recognize December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities,” Social Services Minister June Draude said. “Our government remains committed to ensuring the rights of people with disabilities and helping to integrate people with disabilities in every aspect of the social, political, economic and cultural life of their communities.”
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed around the world every year on December 3 since 1981. The commemoration is intended to promote a better understanding of disability issues.
