Int'l Day of Persons With Disabilities Marked in Nepal

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being marked in Nepal Friday around the slogan "Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond".

On the occasion, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has extended best wishes to all brothers and sisters with disabilities who are working in the field of disabilities being associated with different national and international organizations.

In a message on the occasion, Prime Minister Nepal lauded the role of the disabled persons and the organizations working in this sector, stating that they have contributed a lot to the economic and social aspects in the country.

He stressed that the differently able people should be included in the development mainstream with inclusive policy based on compassion and love which could help create favorable atmosphere for them to live a dignified life.

According to the National News Agency RSS, the government is committed to establishing the rights of disabled persons to the sign language, their rehabilitation, education, health, employment and others as per the United Nations General Convention on rights of the disabled persons. He urged all to help in this effort.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sujata Koirala said the Day will instill confidence among the persons with disabilities to live a free and dignified life as respected citizens.

Moreover, Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, Sarvadev Prasad Ojha, giving a message, said the government was committed to ensuring the rights of disabled persons and to making their life easy.
